Financial Options for Seminary Study Programs

The options listed below enable individuals to participate in Seminary courses at various levels of commitment, study and experience. The prices are adjusted according to the level of involvement. In each case, offerings are through learning groups that meet for the study of specific topics in the curriculum. A learning group generally meets for two hours weekly over a ten-week period. Total class, study, and related ministry time is approximately 100 hours per offering. When compared to graduate studies, one learning group offering is somewhat similar to two or three semester hours of graduate credit.

Friendship Scholarship: Friends of Graduate Level, Professional Development Level, or Professional Enrichment Level full-time or part-time students may take one offering at the Personal Enrichment Level at no charge.

1. Graduate Level, Student Ministry Associates, Full-time, Degree Seeking

    The costs for full-time studies are described here as they relate to taking a cluster of four offerings at a designated time period. Full-time is about the same as eight to twelve semester hours of graduate credit.

    1. One time application fee (non-refundable, but will be applied toward tuition for first course): $50.
    2. Cost of four offerings at $220 per offering: $880.
    3. Approximate cost for books per ten-week cluster: $300.
    4. Approximate total cost: $1,080 per ten-week cluster; $3,540 per year of three clusters.

    Notes on other expenses:

    1. Medical insurance is required and is the financial responsibility of the student. Spanish River Church will assist students in identifying insurance options. Approximate cost per month is $100 for individual policies and $400 for family policies.
    2. Housing costs may range from $300 to $1,200 per month and are the responsibility of the student.
    3. Employment opportunities may be available at the church or through area businesses. A church group will assist students in dealing with their support needs.

2. Graduate Level, Part-time, Degree Seeking

    The costs for part-time studies are described here as they relate to taking a single offering which originates at Spanish River Church and is transcripted by Reformed Theological Seminary.

    1. One-time application fee (non-refundable, but will be applied toward tuition for first course): $50.
    2. Cost per offering: $220.
    3. Approximate cost of books: $75.
    4. Approximate total cost per offering: $295.

3. Graduate Level, Portfolio Direct

    Assessment of prior learning can be accounted for by means of meeting portfolio competencies. A $110 administrative fee is charged for the application of each learning group offering or credit course equivalency.

4. Professional Development Level, Certificate Seeking

    Individuals may take courses at an advanced level that is not for graduate equivalency; instead, Professional Development Units are awarded. Participants are to invest five to eight hours per week in preparation.

    1. Cost per offering: $110.
    2. There is no administration fee; books may be purchased or borrowed.
    3. A certificate of completion is awarded for participation.

5. Personal Enrichment Level, Certificate Seeking

    Individuals may take courses for personal development. At this level Personal Enrichment Certificates are awarded. Participants invest two or five hours aweek in preparation.

    1. Cost per offering: $55.
    2. There is no administration fee; books may be purchased or borrowed.
    3. A certificate of completion for Personal Enrichment is awarded for participation.
